The Control Department has a broad mandate to ensure that only approved goods pass the border. The mission involves conducting customs controls on imports and exports where the Swedish Customs looks for goods that violate restrictions and ensures that the correct customs duties and taxes are collected. The Control Department is tasked with stopping or seriously disrupting organized crime and ensuring competitive neutrality.

The operational work of the Control Department is carried out in groups. The groups work with the entire mandate of the Swedish Customs but are specialized based on the needs of the operations.

About the Position

As a customs officer with a focus on internal control, you will primarily work with clearance work. You will work in the Control Department's clearance expedition in Svinesund, where you ensure that companies and individuals comply with customs regulations, among other things by reviewing customs declarations. Checking customs declarations means ensuring that the correct fees are paid and that import and export restrictions are adhered to.

The work is varied and includes everything from expedition work, administrative tasks, contact with freight forwarders, companies, individuals, and authorities. The work may involve inspections and goods investigations in the commercial goods flow.

As a customs officer, you will work in uniform, make various forms of authority decisions, and meet the public and customers daily. We place great importance on your ability to treat people with respect and understanding, that you have good judgment, and that you are a good representative of the Swedish Customs both internally and externally.

As we are open 24/7, we have shift work, which means you need to be comfortable with irregular working hours.

Currently, the Swedish Customs is undergoing an exciting but extensive transformation to implement new customs legislation along with new systems. This means you must be curious and interested in learning new things, as well as having good computer skills and familiarity with technology. You also have a responsibility to follow the state value framework.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A completed upper secondary education.
  • and/or:
  • A completed qualified vocational education/college education in forwarding, logistics, economics, law, or alternatively studies of at least 60 credits / 90 higher education credits with a focus on forwarding, logistics, economics.
  • At least three years of work experience.
  • Good ability to communicate and express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
  • A valid B driver's license in Sweden, not automatic transmission, and very good driving experience.
  • The work requires good physical condition and health as working hours may be irregular.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Post-secondary education in, for example, behavioral science, social science, forwarding/logistics, criminology/law, or IT/technology.
  • Experience in work that has placed high demands on communicating with and meeting people well.
  • Work experience in case management or administrative processing.
  • Experience in customs-related work in the last 10 years, e.g., in the forwarding industry or from operations dealing with foreign trade.
  • Languages other than Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and English.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with technology.

Location: Svinesund

The employment start date is September 15, 2026. When the employment begins, you will undergo an introductory training of about 4 months. The introduction includes theory mixed with practice and will primarily be conducted at your place of employment.

The employment is a permanent position that begins with a 6-month probationary period, and individual salary setting applies.

Security clearance according to the Security Protection Act will be conducted before employment, as well as drug testing and background checks. The Swedish Customs is a total defense authority, and upon employment, you will be assigned to the Swedish Customs in case of war.
